Omar is a Senior Research Officer at the Yehuda Elkana Center for Teaching, Learning, and Higher Education Research. He brings extensive experience in higher education applied research and policy analysis, having contributed to the implementation of key EU-wide research and evaluation projects.
In his current role, Omar contributes to the expansion of the Center's applied research and policy analysis portfolio. This strategic position is central to the Center's mission of bridging rigorous academic inquiry with real-world policy impact through building and maintaining robust partnerships with key stakeholders in the policy and research landscape.
Omar holds a PhD in Political Science from Central European University (CEU), focusing on higher education policy, and a Master of Public Administration from the American University in Cairo (AUC). In his doctoral research, he introduced the concept of "Career Knowledgeability," exploring its role in the career self-management processes of university graduates. He is currently a fellow of the Yehuda Elkana Center at CEU and the Yousef Jameel GAPP Public Leadership Program at AUC.
Beyond academia, Omar is an accomplished international development professional with deep expertise in entrepreneurship development, science education, school-to-work transition, and technical education. He has worked for prominent organizations, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the German Development Agency (GIZ), to implement high-impact programmes in these domains.
