Overview
Central European University (CEU) invites outstanding young scholars interested in pursuing a doctoral degree related to higher education policy to apply for the Yehuda Elkana Fellowship. The fellowship is offered to a candidate who has successfully been admitted to a CEU doctoral program and who is pursuing advanced education and research in higher education policy.
The successful candidate will pursue a regular program of doctoral study and research in one of CEU’s departments or programs, for example, the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy, and International Relations; Sociology; History; Gender Studies; or other appropriate programs. Furthermore, the Yehuda Elkana Center for Teaching, Learning, and Higher Education Research supports the work of the doctoral fellows by organizing academic events, inviting guest speakers, providing additional opportunities for professional networking, and offering help with academic research and development processes.

Yehuda Elkana
The Fellowship is named after Yehuda Elkana, the third President and Rector of Central European University (1999-2009), a renowned international scholar, public intellectual, and educator with a deep commitment to open society.
Funding
Consistent with other CEU Doctoral Scholarships, the Yehuda Elkana Fellowship is awarded for a period of 48 months. It covers the full cost of tuition as well as a monthly stipend to assist with housing and living costs. More information can be found under CEU Doctoral Scholarships.
Application Procedure
To apply for the Yehuda Elkana Doctoral Fellowship, applicants need to submit a regular CEU application form for doctoral programs, along with a research proposal which lies within the academic subfield of higher education policy. To be considered for the Elkana Fellowship, candidates should begin their Statement of Purpose with the following sentence: “Please consider this application for the Yehuda Elkana Fellowship.” Such candidates will be simultaneously considered for both the Elkana Fellowship and the program or department’s regular doctoral fellowships. CEU doctoral programs may also recommend applications for consideration.
