As we begin the academic year, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Helga Dorner, faculty member, senior teacher and researcher in higher education teaching and learning has been named Interim Director of the CTL. She looks forward to meeting all new CEU faculty, as well as others who may be new to the CTL and the many returning faculty who have worked with us in the past.
As many of you may know, Dr. Sally Schwager, Founding Director of the CTL, has returned to the U.S. after seven and a half years at CEU. We know that you will join us in thanking her for her superb leadership and personal guidance. Since its founding in 2011, the CTL has grown to include a full range of scholarly programs for faculty and for doctoral students, including a faculty discussion series, course collaborations, individual consultations and class observations, and working with faculty on Teaching Development Grants. Doctoral students from across the university take courses at the CTL, with over 500 enrollments as of last spring, and some 80 doctoral students have earned a certificate from the CTL Program for Excellence in Teaching in Higher Education. Others participate in the CTL Mentoring Program for Global Teaching Fellows and special sessions for CEU Teaching Assistants.
This year also brings several new and returning post-doctoral fellows to the CTL. We are pleased and honored to welcome Dr. Gorana Misic and Dr. Margaryta Rymarenko to our team. Gorana and Margaryta look forward to working with CEU doctoral students and teaching assistants.
Tünde Polonkai, Office Manager, continues to be there as a first contact for any CTL related requests and enquires.
We are pleased to announce a new initiative for CEU Teaching Assistants, as well as new short seminars for doctoral students on experiential learning and teaching in diverse environments. In addition, due to high interest in our core course Foundations in Teaching in Higher Education, we are planning to offer the course twice during this Academic Year.
CEU faculty and doctoral students will have an opportunity to meet and learn from distinguished teachers and scholars visiting the CTL: Professor Katharine Sarikakis (University of Vienna, recipient of the European Teaching Award), and colleagues from the University of Oxford, Lund University, and University College Cork.
