European Teaching Award: Academic Year 2016-2017: Maurizio Pirro

CEU honors Professor Maurizio Pirro, Department of Literature, Language and Arts, University of Bari, Italy, with the sixth annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities.

A distinguished scholar of German Literature at University of Bari, Professor Maurizio Pirro, who has been recognized for pioneering interactive teaching, was a recipient of the sixth annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities, awarded at CEU's Opening Ceremony on September 15, 2017.

Professor Pirro received his MA from Bari Uniersity and his PhD in German language and literature from Pavia University. Professor Pirro also studied for seven years in Heidelberg, Germany. Recognized as a distinguished teacher and scholar by faculty colleagues and students alike, Professor Pirro's students submitted a "visual portfolio" to the selection committee to underscore the impact his teaching has had on their personal lives and career goals as well as their intellectual development. The European Award is an additional acknowledgement of his commitment and dedication to student learning. The award is accompanied by the €5,000 Diener Prize, made possible by a generous gift from Steven and Linda Diener in memory of Ilona Diener. Read more.
